Edenton, North Carolina, United States
A leader who understands that broadband is more than infrastructure, it is economic development, educational access, healthcare connectivity, and the foundation of modern communities.
With more than 30 years in telecommunications, Mr. Coughlin has helped shape the industry at pivotal moments of transformation. During his tenure at Time Warner Cable (now Charter Communications), he played a key role in launching the company’s broadband expansion and was instrumental in the creation and scaling of its Business Services division, a move that helped redefine the cable industry’s growth model beyond residential markets and into enterprise and commercial connectivity. That strategy ultimately became a cornerstone of industry-wide evolution.
Later, as a partner at Knight Enterprises, he led significant operational growth that culminated in the company’s successful acquisition in 2021.
Today, he serves as Board Chair and President of eNCore Connects, a nonprofit organization committed to expanding high-speed fiber access across rural North Carolina. Through its Fybe fiber internet brand, eNCore is constructing more than 4,000 miles of fiber optic infrastructure to ensure that underserved communities are not left behind in the digital economy.
Holding two telecommunications patents, he combines industry innovation with mission-driven leadership — proving that nonprofit models can deliver both strategic scale and lasting community impact.
