Jim Zou joined ADVA Optical Networking (now Adtran Networks), Germany, in 2016, currently driving business development for data center interconnection in the United States. He actively participates in standardization study groups like CableLabs, ITU-T SG15, OIF, O-RAN Alliance, and other industrial MSAs. Before moving to the US in early 2025, he was leading emerging initiatives and new technology introduction for Global Business Development, based in Germany. Prior to that, he was a Principal Engineer of Advanced Technology, leading European multi-nation research projects in the area of optical access and quantum security. He received the PhD degree in Optical Communication and Photonics Integration from Eindhoven University of Technology, The Netherlands, in 2015.
He served on the OFC technical program subcommittee for optical access networks (subcommittee chair for OFC 2025), and currently an Associate Editor for IEEE/Optica Journal of Optical Communications and Networking, looking after the topics of access/metro networks and quantum security. He has co- and authored more than 70 scientific papers, and holds several international patents which lead to commercial products.
