Mike Emmendorfer is Vice President of Technology and Field CTO at Calix, where he is responsible for defining next-generation access, premises, and cloud platforms and standards. A recognized technology evangelist, he works closely with communication service providers (CSPs) to shape vision, requirements, and industry direction.
Prior to Calix, Mike served as Vice President of Systems Engineering and Architecture at CommScope and ARRIS, where he led half of the global CTO Networks organization with responsibility for PON, DOCSIS, and cloud platforms. Earlier in his career, he joined Charter Communications in 1999 as a founding member—later becoming an engineering executive—of its Internet, Telephone, and Business Services units. There, he established the company’s first Data Network and Application Engineering and Architecture organizations and helped transform Charter into a modern CSP. His work enabled large-scale deployments across residential, SMB, enterprise, MDU, hospitality, and mobile xHaul services using technologies such as PON, DOCSIS, Wi‑Fi, Ethernet, IP/MPLS, VoIP, provisioning, network management, and automation across Charter’s 40‑state footprint.
Mike’s contributions have earned him induction into the Cable TV Pioneers, Multichannel News’ “40 Under 40,” and SCTE’s IP Innovator Award. He currently serves on the Broadband Forum Executive Advisory Board, chairs the Fiber Broadband Association Sustainability Working Group, and sits on the prpl Foundation Board of Directors. He has previously held leadership roles with CableLabs and IEEE.
A frequent global speaker, Mike has presented to government leaders, regulators, analysts, media, and industry conferences worldwide. He holds more than 40 publications and 11 patents, several forming the foundation of deployed industry standards. Mike earned a B.S. in Management Information Systems from Saint Louis University and a CTO Professional Certificate from MIT.
